Kamo Mphela’s real name is Kamogelo Mphela, and she was born in Soweto, South Africa. She started as a dancer in South Africa and subsequently became a singer.

Her passion is dancing, and she developed it so well that when the opportunity to showcase her talent came, she didn’t miss it. She over-delivered. 

Before Kamo Mphela rose to stardom, she would accompany her father to various events. Kamo’s father worked in the media at YFM; she was allowed to perform live and dance at some of these events.

Those platforms ultimately led to her gaining more exposure through live performances. She eventually rose to prominence by sharing videos of herself dancing on Instagram. She attempted acting before pursuing her dance profession and was an extra on the TV drama Isibaya. 

She eventually learned she didn’t like acting and began working as a gig dancer. Her dancing abilities earned her the title “Queen of Amapiano.” 

She was selected to Major League Music in 2019 and debuted her EP called Twentee with the company. Her hit track “Nkulunkulu” was released on March 26, 2021. The song was given a platinum certification. She has also released songs like “Suka Emabozen” and “Menemene,” as well as a collaboration with South African musician Busiswa on the tune “SBWL.” She appeared on MFR Souls’ tune “Amanikiniki,” which peaked at No. 1 on Good Hope FM’s SA House Music Top 10 Chart.

She has also performed and performed with local artists such as Nadia Nakai and Killer Kau. As a vocalist and dancer, Kamo Mphela has performed in Amapiano songs like “Sukendleleni” and “Labantwana Ama Uber.” Aside from Amapiano, she has also danced to other prominent South African music genres such as Gqom, kwaito, and pantsula.

Her track “Nkulunkulu” was nominated for Best Music Video at the 2021 Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards.
